French technology will be used to safeguard the 2008 Games against ticket fraud
For the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, 12.2m RFID tickets are being manufactured to control access to venues. The contact-free inlays for the tickets, which will include printed anti-counterfeiting security features, are being produced by a joint venture between ASK – a French company dedicated to contact-free and RFID technology – and domestic Chinese concern Tsinghua Tong Fang.

The complete system will include RFID inlays, gate readers, software and service. With the Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG) promoting the concept of a “high-tech Olympics”, RFID ticketing forms part of an advanced technological approach to security to be used throughout the 2008 Olympic Games.
Contact-free technology, also provided by ASK, was successfully employed in the 20th Winter Olympic Games in Turin. Public transport authorities and other players implemented contact-free technology using ASK cards and tickets.
Anti-counterfeit technology
Security is a high priority for BOCOG in the preparation of the games, and RFID tickets will be used for the sales and verification of tickets to eliminate counterfeiting. The technology is being promoted because of its capacity to provide secure, reliable and innovative services for all visitors attending this major event.
ASK Tong Fang RFID tickets are based on a unique technology that uses silver ink printed antenna and flip chip die attach, manufactured at the joint venture manufacturing plant in Miyun, near Beijing.
"We are really proud to contribute to this national major event with an innovative technology. ASK's technology transfer has been a success and we have been able to demonstrate to the organizing committee all the merits of our technology, the cost-effectiveness of the equipment and the skills of our team", says Mr. Gu Qing, ASK Tong Fang General Manager.
The move to use RFID tickets also brings environmental benefits – another priority for BOCOG in its drive to stage a “green Olympics”. Since its creation in 1997, ASK has put environmental concerns at the forefront of its operations; its manufacturing plant in France implements recycling in its processes. Similarly, ASK Tong Fang uses cost-effective and environmentally friendly raw material – recyclable paper and silver ink.
“Environment is a global concern. Our contactless paper tickets have brought to the market a recyclable high technology product for many applications, including access control to major sports and cultural events. We hope RFID technology will contribute to providing easy and secure access for all participants," says Mr. Bruno Moreau, co-founder and CEO of ASK.
